Vol. 186 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Road Improvement Grant.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which the grant for the improvement of urban roads was notified to Wexford Corporation; and when the work of improvement will commence in Wexford.

Wexford Corporation were notified of the allocation of an urban road improvement grant on 28th May, 1960. It is understood that a certain amount of preliminary work has been carried out by the Corporation and that the remainder of the schemes which were approved on the 21st September last, will be executed by Wexford County Council, acting on behalf of the Corporation before the end of this financial year.

Can the Minister give any particulars at all of the work that has been done so far?

No. I have a rough figure here.

Could the Minister say if the grant is effective beyond 31st March of this year?

Not normally. My information from Wexford is that these works which have been approved since last September and which in fact in some degree are under way will be completed before the end of the financial year.

The Minister says that the grant is not extended beyond 31st March?

The answer to that is "no".

They had better hurry up then?

Certainly.
