Vol. 186 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - F.A.O. Campaign.

58.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps the Government have taken to date to support the world wide "Freedom from Hunger Campaign" launched by the F.A.O. over the period 1960 to 1965; and what further steps are envisaged for the same purpose.

On 26th June, 1960, the Taoiseach announced Ireland's support for the F.A.O. "Freedom from Hunger" Campaign, and on 30th June, on the occasion of the official launching of the Campaign, I sent a message to the Director General of the F.A.O. promising a contribution of $10,000 in token of our support. The contribution was paid the next day.

The Irish Red Cross Society has kindly accepted the Government's invitation to organise a national collection of funds for the Campaign and has designated the year 1962 as the "Freedom from Hunger" Campaign Year in this country.
