Vol. 186 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Survey of River Nore.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the survey of the river Nore will be undertaken in the present year.

Is there any hope that the drainage of the Nore could be brought in as an intermediate scheme similar to that which the Parliamentary Secretary announced for the River Duff in the Sligo-Leitrim catchment area?

The River Duff is one of the four intermediate schemes selected and surveyed last year and it has now practically reached the work stage. The Nore is eighteenth on the list of major catchments. Three of these have been completed; work is in progress on four; and six others are in various stages of development. That is the position and it would be impossible to change it.

Is it a fact that another Deputy from Carlow-Kilkenny will have to die in order to get this in as an intermediate scheme?

No Deputy's death had any effect on the priority list.
