Vol. 186 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coast Erosion in Kerry.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the urgency of taking steps to prevent coastal erosion in County Kerry in view of the constant damage to valuable land and property being caused; and if he will state what measures are being taken to solve the problem.

Representations have been received as to the need for coast protection works at three places in Co. Kerry.

No definite decision has yet been taken in regard to the treatment of coast erosion, but the question of introducing legislation is being considered.

For how long?

My office is preparing a list of all the coast erosion works that have been requested over the past few years. The list is now actually ready and consideration is being given to other aspects of the legislation to be introduced.

Why did you drop the Bill you had?

I do not think anybody wants that Bill.

The people would prefer that Bill to no Bill.

If we introduce a Bill, it will be a satisfactory Bill.
