Vol. 186 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commissions and Inter-Departmental Committees.

54.

asked the Minister for Education the number of commissions appointed by him which are at present functioning, the respective dates of their appointment and the subject matter for consideration by each commission where this is not apparent from its title.

The only commission appointed by me is the Commission on Higher Education. It was set up on 4th October, 1960, and its terms of reference are to inquire into and make recommendations in relation to university, professional, technological and higher education generally.

A continuous commission appointed by a former Minister for Education is in existence, namely, the Irish Folklore Commission, set up in 1935.

55.

asked the Minister for Education the number of inter-departmental committees appointed by him which are at present functioning, the respective dates of their appointment and the subject matter for consideration by each committee where this is not apparent from its title.

No inter-departmental Committees set up by me (or by my predecessors) exist at present.
