Vol. 188 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Forestry Lands.

36.

asked the Minister for Lands what efforts have been made by his Department in the last year to acquire land for forestry work in County Wexford.

In the year ended 31st March, 1961, the Forestry Division of my Department acquired a total of 815 acres for afforestation in Co. Wexford as compared with 446 acres in the previous year. At a recent date 160 offers of land totalling 6,451 acres were on offer for forestry purposes in the county. Agreement to purchase had been reached in 45 cases totalling 849 acres and title was being cleared by the owners. Negotiations to purchase were proceeding with 24 other owners in respect of 304 acres and the remaining cases were at the preliminary stages of investigation. I can assure the Deputy that all these cases will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
