Vol. 188 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Grange (Roscommon) School.

39.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the difficult conditions under which children of Grange district, Boyle, County Roscommon, are attending school in the former school residence; if contracts have been received for the repair of the old school; and if he will state the cause of the delay in having this very urgent work put in hands.

I am aware of the difficult conditions under which Grange national school, Co. Roscommon, is operating at present.

A contract for the renovation of the school building and the installation of water-flushed toilets has recently been placed by the Commissioners of Public Works. Building operations will commence shortly.

The main causes for the delay in having the work put in hands were:— alterations in planning to provide a water carriage system of sanitation instead of filter-bed latrines, difficulties in connection with the provision of an adequate supply of water for the toilets and the difficulties which were experienced in the completion of all the legal matters connected with the vesting of the school site and additional plots.
