Vol. 188 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Telephone Kiosk.

41.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if in view of the importance of Loughanure, Annagry, County Donegal, where there is now established a non-residential Irish College, he will take steps to have a telephone kiosk erected there.

The use likely to be made of a telephone kiosk at Loughanure would not be sufficient to justify the provision of a kiosk there. There is a coin-box telephone in the Irish College at Loughanure.

Is the Minister aware that the Irish College is closed during certain hours of the day in the summer months when it is impossible to telephone from this locality? If a doctor is required one must cycle two and a half miles to telephone. Will the Minister experiment by the installation of a telephone kiosk in the locality?

My information is that it is not warranted in the area as sufficient use would not be made of it to justify the expense.

We cannot know whether it is warranted or otherwise unless we try. Let us try.
