Vol. 188 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Location of Fertiliser Factory.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if proposals for the construction and erection of a fertiliser factory near Banagher, County Offaly, have been deferred; what the present position is in regard to them; and if a decision in regard to the location of the factory between Shannonbridge and Banagher has been given Government approval.

As already announced, a Committee has been set up to report on the various considerations on which the Government would determine the practicability and desirability of establishing a nitrogenous fertiliser factory in this country; and when the report of the Committee is received the Government will give further consideration to the prospects for establishing the industry on an economic basis. In the meantime no decision regarding the location for such a factory can be taken.
