Vol. 188 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation.

1.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the maximum amount payable under the Workmen's compensation code to a totally incapacitated worker injured in the course of his employment; and if he will take early and effective steps to bring the compensation more in line with the value of wages today.

The maximum weekly payment under the Workmen's Compensation Acts in respect of total incapacity is £4 10s.

It is my intention to examine fully all aspects of the existing Workmen's Compensation scheme when the recommendations of the Commission on Workmen's Compensation are available.

Meanwhile it is not proposed to alter the existing maximum weekly payment of £4 10s. or any other feature of the scheme.

Could the Minister give any indication now when he is likely to receive the report of the Commission inquiring into workmen's compensation?

I received an assurance some time ago that I would receive it shortly after midsummer.

The Minister hopes to receive it?

I said I had received an assurance from the Commission that I would receive it shortly after midsummer.
