Vol. 188 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Incidence of Sur-Tax.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons who were assessed for sur-tax in the latest year for which figures are available and the estimated number who will be relieved from sur-tax by the Budget proposals.

The total number of persons assessed to Sur-tax in 1960-61 was 5,474. The assessments involved related mainly to the year 1959-60 but there was an appreciable number of assessments in respect of income chargeable for prior years.

It is estimated that under the Budget proposals 1,500 persons approximately will be exempted from sur-tax for 1960-61 and between 3,500 and 4,000 persons will have their Sur-tax liability for that year reduced.
