Vol. 188 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensioners' Cheques.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that inconvenience is caused on occasions to civil service pensioners by reason of the fact that they receive their cheques too late for cashing before a bank holiday; and if he will have the procedure altered so that cheques on such occasions will be received by the pensioners in time for cashing before bank holidays.

The payment of civil service pensions is not affected by the incidence of bank holidays except where a bank holiday coincides with the last day of a quarter and a final quarterly payment covering the period up to and including the last day of the quarter is to be made. This coincidence is of rate occurrence, but I shall have consideration given to the possibility of advancing the date of payment on such occasions.
