Vol. 188 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Contributory Old Age Pension Claimant.

2.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason why his Department refused to grant to Michael Connolly, Colmanstown, Ballinasloe, County Galway, a contributory old age pension.

One of the statutory contribution conditions which must be satisfied in order to qualify for an old age (contributory) pension is that the claimant must have entered insurance before attaining the age of sixty.

According to the Department's records, the claimant to whom the Deputy refers first entered insurance under the National Health Insurance Acts in May, 1951 when he was sixty-three years of age. In reply to an enquiry he confirmed that he was not insured before the age of sixty. His claim accordingly had to be rejected.

The claimant was notified of the decision disallowing his claim and advised of his right to appeal if he were dissatisfied. He did not, however, appeal.
