Vol. 188 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Diesel Locomotives.

10.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the report of the survey of signals to determine visibility from the cabs of the diesel electric locomotives purchased in the United States of America is yet available; and, if so, whether the engines may now be driven in the public services in either direction, cab forward or cab rear, with complete safety to the public.

I would refer the Deputies to the reply given on 26th April, 1961 to previous questions on this subject. I have nothing further to add at this stage.

Could I ask the Minister when he will be in a position to let us know the findings?

I am not able to say at the moment.

Could I ask the Minister why it should take four months for the Department to take the decision to put these engines into operation?

The Deputy is totally misinformed in regard to the whole matter and, as neither he nor I are experts in diesel engines, I do not propose to say anything more about it.

Could I ask the Minister if it is a fact that these engines cannot be used and say that they were purchased because of a major policy blunder?

The Deputy is making an argument. I am calling the next question.

Can I have an answer to my question?

The Deputy may not remain on his feet.

I shall ask the Minister the question every week until I get an answer. You cannot cover up. What is the Minister covering up?

The Deputy is interrupting the business of the House to no purpose.
