Vol. 189 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Credit Issued by Commercial Banks.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate for the twelve months to the latest date for which figures are available and to the corresponding date last year the amount of credit by way of overdraft or otherwise issued by each of the commercial banks operating in the State.

I have no figures relating to the issue of credit by individual banks other than those published in their annual accounts.

The Quarterly Statistical Bulletin of the Central Bank, however, contains aggregate figures for the eight Associated Banks and the National City Bank, Limited, of total Bills, Loans and Advances outstanding each quarter within the State. At the 21st March, 1961 (the latest date for which information has been published) the figure was £197.5 million, on the corresponding dates last year and the year before the totals were £184.5 million and £166.5 million respectively.
