Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of each of the last five years (a) the number of certificates issued by the film censor limiting the viewing of particular films to persons over a fixed age, and (b) whether any prosecutions were brought against film exhibitors in respect of the exhibition of such films to persons under the fixed age.

The figures for the last five years are as follows:—

1956: Nil.

1957: 4 (of which 1 was issued by direction of the Appeal Board).

1958: 1 (issued by direction of the Appeal Board).

1959: 3.

1960: 4 (all issued by direction of the Appeal Board).

There have been no prosecutions for breaches of the conditions of those certificates.
