Vol. 189 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Feeding Oats for Horses of Army Jumping Team.

33.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Defence whether any difficulty has been experienced in obtaining a suitable supply of feeding oats for the Army Jumping Team; and, if so, whether any imported oats have had to be used to make up the deficiency.

Oats for Army purposes are obtained under contract and the quantities required are relatively small. I have no knowledge of any difficulties experienced by contractors in meeting my Department's requirements with Irish oats.

I can take it from the Minister's reply there was no foreign oats used for the Army horses?

As far as I know, there was not.

Would the Minister take steps, then, to consult with the Minister for Agriculture to see that what has taken place in the Army in respect of first-class horses should also take place in respect of blood-stock breeding——

That does not arise out of this Question.

This contract was placed a long time ago and the contractor is supplying oats as he undertook to do.
