Vol. 189 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Rockingham Estate (Roscommon).

38.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Rockingham Estate, County Roscommon, will be divided; if all local eligible applicants for land will be accommodated before the applications of migrants are considered and if consideration will be given to the applications of local landless persons who have worked on the estate.

It is still too early to indicate when the lands, comprising upwards of 1,400 acres, purchased by the Land Commission on this estate will be allotted. Work on the preparation of a scheme of division is proceeding as rapidly as possible, consistent with the extensive acreage involved and the detailed enquiries on the ground which are necessary. The circumstances of all eligible local applicants, including former employees of the estate, are being carefully investigated to ensure a full assessment of their claims before allocation of the lands takes place.
