asked the Taoiseach if he will furnish for each county and county borough and for the State as a whole particulars as to the number of farmers (and dependants) entitled to services under Section 15 of the Health Act, 1953, in expansion (and in the form) of the Table on page 66 of The Health Services of Ireland (1959), published by the Institute of Public Administration.
Written Answers. - Health Services for Farmers.
The particulars concerning numbers of farmers classified by valuation given in the Table on page 66 of The Health Services of Ireland (1959) published by the Institute of Public Administration, to which the Deputy refers, appear to have been derived from the data relating to various occupations in each Province published in Tables 9A and 9B of the Report of the Census of Population of Ireland, 1951, Vol. III, Pt. 1. Corresponding data for each county and county borough are not available.
In Table 8 of the same Census of Population Report particulars have been published for each county and county borough of the numbers of males and females, gainfully occupied and not gainfully occupied and children under 14 years of age, in the social group "farmers, farmers' relatives and farm managers" classified by rateable valuation of agricultural holding. The following statement, which has been compiled from the published data, shows for each county and county borough the total number of persons involved and the number living in households whose normal residents were the rated occupiers of agricultural holdings of under £50 valuation.
