asked the Minister for Finance whether he appreciates the grave hardship imposed on retired civil servants on fixed incomes who have not received adequate compensation for increases in living costs; and, if so, whether he will consider increasing their allowances at an early date in order to bring their incomes up to a figure more nearly approximating to their needs.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired Civil Servants' Pensions.
8.
As retired civil servants, in common with all classes of Exchequer and local authority pensioners, have received a number of pensions increases, the latest of which was in 1960, it would be incorrect to suggest that these pensioners have been allowed to suffer grave hardship. No further pensions increases are in prospect at present as no provision for this purpose was included in this year's Budget, but the position of civil service pensioners, as well as other public service pensioners, will continue to be kept under review.
