asked the Taoiseach the number of births registered in areas regarded officially as Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas in the years 1926, 1936, 1946, 1956, 1959 and 1960.
I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to take Questions No. 5 and No. 6 together.
In the case of both birth and marriage registration the smallest areas for which data are available are Registration Districts, which normally comprise a number of District Electoral Divisions. It is not possible to compile the relevant statistics either for the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas as defined by Coimisiún na Gaeltachta or for the Gaeltacht areas as defined by Ordú na Límistéirí Gaeltachta, 1956. The former areas are defined in terms of District Electoral Divisions and the latter, in many cases, in terms of individual townlands, so that the data for them cannot be obtained from those for Registration Districts.
