Vol. 189 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports from Shannon Airport Factories.

15.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total amount of goods manufactured in the new factories at Shannon Airport exported (a) by air and (b) by sea to the latest available date.

16.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total amount of raw materials for the new factories at Shannon Airport imported (a) by air and (b) by sea to the latest available date.

I propose, with the permission of An Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to a question put down by Deputy McQuillan on 22nd February, 1961 in which I indicated that the question of the statistics, including export statistics, which might be appropriate to the activities being carried on in the Shannon Free Airport Industrial Estate was under examination by the Central Statistics Office. I am informed that progress has been made in the matter but that no final conclusion has yet been reached. Accordingly, I am not yet in a position to make a statement in the matter. I can say, however, that the amount of air freight traffic generated by the Industrial Estate to 31st April, 1961 totalled approximately 623,000 kilograms, which was almost evently divided between imports and exports.
