Vol. 189 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development Plans for Fíor-Ghaeltacht.

44.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht what are his specific development plans at present for the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas in (a) Mayo, (b) Galway, (c) Donegal, (d) Kerry, (e) Waterford and (f) Cork.

Iséard atá ar intinn i láthair na huaire ó thaobh pleananna forbairte ná go dtabharfaí feidhm do na scéimeanna a luaitear i Leabhar na Meastachán don bhliain airgeadais reatha i ndáil le Vóta na Roinne. Ceapadh furmhór na scéimeanna sin d'fhonn go mbeadh feidhm leo ar fud na Gaeltachta uile agus ní déantar aon idirdhealú idir contae amháin agus contae ar bith eile.

On a point of Order, may I ask the Chair to give a ruling on this matter? Is it not fair to assume that when a Deputy puts down a question in English he expects the answer to be given in English and that if he puts down the question in Irish he expects the answer in Irish? Is it not a breach of good manners, if nothing else, for a Minister or a Parliamentary Secretary to answer in a different language from that in which the question is asked? Would the Chair give a ruling so that in future we shall not have this joke made out of——

That is not a point of order.

I would ask the Chair to give a ruling on it.

I cannot give any ruling on points of manners. I can rule only on points of order.

We have an Irish apartheid.
