Vol. 189 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Prices.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the price of store cattle and young cattle has been falling consistently for the past three months, and has now reached a point where they are almost unsaleable; if he will consider methods of obtaining a market for young and store cattle; and if he will give an indication of the prospects for the future.

There is no source of information available to me sufficiently reliable to enable me to advise as to the prospects of the cattle trade in the immediate or distant future.

Is it the Minister's intention to discontinue the subsidy on cattle exports from 1st July?

That is a separate question.

It will affect the price of cattle. Would the Minister reconsider that decision and continue the subsidy?

I was not aware that I made any.

I hope the Minister does not.

Can I take it that the subsidy will continue from 1st July?

I did not say that either.

Deputy Wycherley is getting a lot of information.
