Vol. 189 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Roads in Cappawhite (Tipperary) Area.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the poor state of repair of the roads in the Cappawhite, Hollyford, County Tipperary area; and, if so, if in view of the difficulty of keeping these particular roads in repair especially in the mountainy areas, he will have a survey carried out with a view to providing a special grant to put all those roads in a proper state of repair.

I am not aware that the general standard of repair of roads in the Cappawhite area differs from that in other areas in the county. If particular roads need attention, it rests with Tipperary (South Riding) County Council, the body responsible for public roads in the county, to consider applying portion of their annual Road Fund grants to such roads. In 1961/62 these grants include a Main Road Improvement grant of £44,200, a County Road Improvement grant of £91,100 and a Main Road Upkeep grant of £30,234. The main and county road improvement grants have together been increased by over £25,000 in the last two years.
