Vol. 189 No. 11

Written Answers. - Housing Grants and Subsidies.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if grants have been made by his Department to county council or other housing authorities under or for the purposes of (a) section 31 of Act No. 16 of 1952 or (b) section 35 of the same Act in a recent year; and, if so, if he will give particulars of the appropriate grants or subsidies and the total amount granted in a year.

Grants have been allocated in respect of houses erected under these sections. The total grants allocated to date and the amounts paid on foot thereof are £230,000 and £225,000, approximately. The latest grant allocation was in respect of a scheme under section 31 of 34 houses in an urban district, approved in December, 1957. Of the total allocation of £230,000, £153,000 was in respect of schemes submitted by Dublin Corporation; £71,000 in respect of schemes submitted by 11 other urban authorities and £6,000 in respect of schemes submitted by 4 county councils. The appropriate rates of grant payable are set out in the Second Schedule to the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950.
