Vol. 189 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stewart's Hospital (Dublin).

8.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received a copy of a report made by Dr. Elyan, former R.M.S. at Stewart's Hospital, County Dublin, concerning conditions at the Hospital; and if he proposes to take any action in the matter in order to safeguard the interests of those educable and trainable children at present being maintained at the Hospital from public funds.

On 25th ultimo I received a copy of the report referred to, accompanied by a circular letter, signed by Dr. Elyan, dated 22nd March last. The documents in question had been posted in Dublin on 24th ultimo, several days, apparently, after they had been issued to the press.

In a reply on 17th ultimo to questions by the Deputy I explained my position in relation to this and other similar hospitals. The receipt of the memorandum has not convinced me that special action on my part is necessary.
