Vol. 189 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South-West Cork Drainage Works.

1.

asked the Minister for Finance the rivers surveyed for arterial drainage in Cork South-West; and when it is proposed to commence actual drainage work on each such river.

A scheme for the Owvane catchment will be on exhibition this month and, if all goes well, a contract for the carrying out of the works should be placed by the end of the year. A scheme for the Owenkeagh area is in course of preparation and is expected to be ready for consideration in the autumn. I cannot say yet when works might start.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance the minor drainage works which his Department has listed for clearance in Cork South-West; and when it is proposed to commence work on each scheme.

Three minor drainage schemes have been sanctioned as rural improvements schemes in West Cork and not yet started. They are in the electoral divisions of Carrigbaun, Bealanageary and Drinagh respectively. Three bog development drainage schemes in Coolmountain, Garrown and Dunmanus respectively have been sanctioned this week. It is anticipated that all six works will be carried out in the near future.
