Vol. 190 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fatal Accidents: Informing of Next-of-Kin.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice if in the event of a fatal accident there is any obligation on the Garda Síochána to inform the next-of-kin of the deceased.

There is no obligation on the Garda Síochána to notify the next-of-kin of persons who lose their lives in accidents, though in practice they invariably endeavour to notify some member of the family if at all possible, unless of course they happen to know that the matter has already been brought to the family's notice.
