Vol. 190 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Fruit for Jam Manufacture.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps his Department are taking to ensure that fruit growers obtain equitable prices for their produce from the jam manufacturers for whom fruit is grown on contract.

While I have no official function in regard to the price of fruit, I have agreed to a suggestion that further discussions between representatives of the growers and the jam manufacturers be held under the auspices of my Department.

Is the Minister's Department acting merely as an arbitrator in this matter? Is that the only function?

We are not acting even as an arbitrator. We have brought the two parties together to provide for discussions of this whole matter as between the two groups.
