Vol. 190 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment on West Donegal Forestry Schemes.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the dissatisfaction of the local unemployed persons because of the inability of his Department to provide employment on the forestry schemes in the Loughmult and Ballymogs forests in West Donegal; and, if so, if he will ensure that local unemployed persons get first preference of employment in all forestry schemes administed by his Department.

The only land so far acquired for forestry in the area in question is in the townland of Loughmult where an area of 16 acres was taken over in July, 1960. This area will be planted this year. The small volume of work available on the area can be handled by staff from existing properties of Ardara Forest, to which the Loughmult lands have been attached, and it is not necessary at present to recruit any new staff there.
