Vol. 190 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Teacher in Dublin Technical School.

43.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education if names of persons have been submitted to his Department for appointment as teacher in electrical engineering, higher technical grade, at Kevin Street Technical School, Dublin; and, if so, whether he is satisfied that these persons have all the necessary qualifications laid down for the appointment.

A vacancy exists for a teacher of electrical engineering, higher technological grade, in the College of Technology, Kevin Street, Dublin, under the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. As is the normal procedure when my sanction is being sought for a proposed appointment, a list of the applicants for the position, with particulars of their qualifications and experience, has been sent to my Department. This list is being examined in accordance with my function in the matter, which is to ensure that no one is appointed to the post who does not possess the prescribed qualifications and experience.

May I take it the Minister will insist that the qualifications of the successful candidate will be those as laid down in the advertisement and that the person appointed will be a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers as laid down in the advertisement?

That is my intention. I shall ensure that nobody is appointed who is not qualified according to the prescribed qualifications.
