Vol. 191 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Overhaul of Dublin Water Hydrants.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Dublin Corporation are proposing to overhaul existing water hydrants; if his Department have had the opportunity of enquiring into what appears to be an improved method of carrying out such overhaul; and if this would be an opportune time to give this method a fair trial.

I am not so aware. Normal maintenance work such as the overhaul or replacement of defective water hydrants is a matter entirely for the Corporation but following the Deputy's previous question on the subject I had some inquiries made about the reconditioning process to which the Deputy refers. It would be a matter for the Corporation to decide whether they would avail themselves of this reconditioning process which it appears would be appropriate only to an obsolete type of hydrant. I understand, however, that the Corporation have been unable to ascertain the name of any local engineering firm willing to undertake the work at the cost mentioned by the patent agents.
