Vol. 191 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electrical Instruction in Kevin Street (Dublin) Technical School.

34.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is satisfied that none of the candidates who presented themselves over twelve months ago for the post of electrical instructor in electrical engineering, higher grade, at Kevin Street Technical School, were qualified in accordance with the qualifications specified in the advertisement for the post; and if he has approved the Committee's decision to declare the competition void.

I should explain that when, subsequent to advertising a post, a Vocational Education Committee considers that none of the applicants is qualified and suitable, then no question of making an appointment arises and no particulars of the applicants are furnished to my Department.

As I informed the Deputy last week, in reply to a question about another competition, my function in the matter of such appointments is to ensure that no one is appointed who does not possess the prescribed qualifications and experience.

Accordingly, the questions put by the Deputy do not arise.
