Vol. 191 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Staffing Position in Health Services.

7.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is considering establishing a working party to go into the staffing position in the health services generally in the interests of better services and increased efficiency; and if he does not intend to establish such a working party, if he will state why.

I regard as impracticable the suggestion that a single working party should examine the very wide diversity of problems involved in the staffing of the health services generally. If the report of any such examination is to be of value, composition of the working party would need to be related to the particular aspect of the service to be studied.

I should perhaps add that apart from any formal constitution of working parties, the arrangements for the staffing of various branches of the services are under constant review, general or particular as circumstances require, by the appropriate officers of my Department. In addition, such reviews are undertaken from time to time by officers of the health authorities themselves, frequently in consultation with officers of my Department.
