Vol. 191 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Preservation of Carlow House.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been drawn to a report in the quarterly bulletin of the Irish Georgian Society that Browne's Hill, County Carlow, one of Ireland's finest houses both architecturally and historically, is in danger of being demolished; and whether his Department will take steps to ensure that this house is preserved as a public monument if no buyer can be found for it through the normal channels.

I have seen the report to which the Deputy refers.

It is not considered that the preservation of the house as a public monument would be justified.
