Vol. 191 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disturbances in Bluebell (Dublin) Area.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice if any prosecutions have taken place in the last twelve months against itinerants in the Bluebell area under the laws and bye-laws relating to public disturbances, damage to public and private property and litter; and, if not, if the Garda Commissioner will take strong measures to ensure that these laws and bye-laws will be rigidly enforced, particularly in regard to itinerants.

During the period in question no proceedings were instituted under the laws referred to against itinerants in the Bluebell area. On six occasions, however, prosecutions for wandering animals were successfully brought against itinerants camping in the area.

The Gardaí have been instructed to pay special attention to the problems caused by the encampment of itinerants in Dublin suburbs and to do all in their power to prevent infringements of the law.
