Vol. 191 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway School Medical Service: Provision of Spectacles.

6.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the extent to which spectacles have been supplied by Galway County Council under the School Medical Service in each of the years 1955 to date.

I am informed by Galway County Council that the numbers of spectacles supplied by the Council under the School Health Examination Service each year since 1955 are as follows:—

Year

Number of Spectacles

1955

868

1956

1,734

1957

1,316

1958

1,870

1959

2,399

1960

2,371

Can the Minister indicate the number of applicants there were in the same period?

I am afraid not but if the Deputy puts down a question I shall be glad to answer it.

Will the people be given the spectacles?

There are a great many more people seeing through spectacles since I became Minister for Health than there were in my predecessors' times.

They are seeing through Fianna Fáil too.

They are not the rose-tinted ones the Minister would like us to believe.
