Vol. 191 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Information for British Industrial Investors.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will consider establishing an office of information or other authoritative body in the United Kingdom, preferably in London, to answer queries from British industrial investors which may arise from advertisements stressing the advantages of investment in Ireland recently appearing in the Financial Times and other publications; or if the establishment of such an office is impracticable, whether he will consider enlarging the scope of the work done by the Irish Export Board in London so that it will be able to channel information to the British investor as well as to the British agent and distributor.

Matters relating to the attraction of outside industrialists to this country are handled by the Industrial Development Authority. I am advised that the Authority's existing arrangements have in practice been found adequate but that they would consider the establishment of a special information centre if developments appear at any time to warrant this course.

Could the Minister say if information such as might be required by industrialists is available in the Irish Embassy in London?

I understand there is a close liaison between the trade attaché in the Irish Embassy and the Industrial Development Authority. In fact, I know there is.

Can people interested in this country get all the information they require in the Irish Embassy?

They may not get all the details they want but information is readily available to them there. There is a representative of the I.D.A. in London at the present time.

Has he an address there?

He has an address there.

It is a pity that this information is not given in the advertisement.

It is a pity the Deputy did not read the advertisement. I have the advertisement here in front of me. Not alone does it give the representative's address but it also gives the address of the Irish Embassy and the address of the Industrial Development Authority here in Dublin.
