Vol. 191 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jubilee Nurses Pensions.

4.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will continue the full pension of £3 per week to jubilee nurses after the nurses concerned have reached the age of seventy years.

Jubilee Nurses are employed by District Nursing Associations which are affiliated to the Queen's Institute of District Nursing in Ireland. The Institute is a voluntary agency and is responsible for the remuneration and conditions of employment of the Jubilee Nurses and I have no functions regarding the superannuation of these nurses.

I understand, however, that the Institute normally pays a pension of £2 per week, and a gratuity of £1 per week to Jubilee Nurses on retirement. The gratuity of £1 per week ceases when the nurses reach 70 years, but at this stage they are normally entitled to the contributory old age pension under the Social Welfare Acts.
