Vol. 191 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Preservation of Places of Scenic Importance and Historic Interest.

34.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Local Government whether he intends to seek to have enacted before the dissolution of the Dáil legislation giving him power to preserve places of scenic importance and historic interest for the public.

Under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Bill it is intended to give local authorities more flexible and effective powers to secure the preservation of places of scenic importance and historic interest. As I stated during the debate on the Estimate for my Department, the Bill is a highly complex one and its drafting is not yet complete. I do not expect that it will be enacted during the present session of the Dáil.

Would the Minister consider extracting that part of this complicated Local Government Bill and trying to enact it separately?

I do not think that would be practicable.
