Vol. 191 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deduction from Old Age Pension.

4.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a deduction of 18/6d. per week is being made from the contributory old age pension of Mr. George King, Julianstown, Drogheda, County Louth, C.P. 19412, for the purpose of recovering an alleged over-payment of £80 5s. 0d. of non-contributory pension paid to Mr. King, in view of the fact that Duleek old age pension sub-committee had decided that this sum was not recoverable.

The overpayment referred to in the question arose as a result of the revocation of Mr. King's non-contributory Old Age Pension as from 22nd November, 1957, by decision of an Appeals Officer following an oral hearing by him of the facts of the case. The recovery of Old Age Pension money irregularly obtained by persons who were not entitled thereto is a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare and not for an old age pension sub-committee, which has no functions in this respect.
