Vol. 191 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kenmare Dam.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will examine a proposal for the construction of a dam at a position to be decided on at or in the vicinity of Our Lady's Bridge, Kenmare, County Kerry, so that from the mouth of the Roughty River eastwards the entire area, at present covered by tidal waters, could be converted into a fresh water lake and maintained at a fixed level, while not interfering with the rights of local salmon fishermen, in view of the fact that this project would prove an attraction for tourists interested in fishing and boating as well as being advantageous to local residents.

If such a proposal is formulated in detail I shall have the fisheries aspects of it examined.
