Vol. 191 No. 9

Committee on Finance - Vote 22—Rates on Government Property.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £529,000 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1962, for Rates and Contributions in lieu of Rates, etc, in respect of Government Property, and for Contributions towards Rates on Premises occupied by Representatives of External Governments.

The Estimate is up by approximately five per cent. or 1/-in the pound. Therefore, I take it that is a more correct estimate of the increase this year than the three per cent. which the Minister said was the calculation in respect of remission of rates on agricultural land. Fairly enough, at the time, the Minister said it was not deemed to be enough.

The increase was three per cent. all round but certain things were added on, certain properties.

Could the Minister give us a list of the properties added on?

I am afraid not. My note here says that the increase is due to certain property being added on to the three per cent. increase in rates all round.

Perhaps the Minister would be good enough to let me have a note as to what the additional properties were?

There are properties coming in and going out each year.

Yes, but there must be something substantial to cause this big change. If the Minister would let me have a note about it, if I do not like it, I can raise it with the Taoiseach.

Vote put and agreed to.
