Vol. 191 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Outbreaks of Weil's Disease.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that there will be no further outbreaks of Weil's disease arising from rat infestation in the vicinity of the canals.

While no case of Weil's disease has been reported so far this year and while, in the twelve cases reported in the year 1960, there does not appear to have been any association with rat infestation in the vicinity of canals, there can be no guarantee in regard to the future. There is always a danger that slow moving waters may, from time to time, become polluted by infected rats and, consequently, the practice of bathing in canals should be strongly discouraged.
