asked the Minister for Finance the total sum paid by way of salary increases to civil servants since March, 1957.

Increases in salaries of non-industrial civil servants proceed from conciliation or arbitration settlements relating either to general pay revisions based on cost of living or grade pay revisions. The cumulative total in respect of such civil servants for the period is in round figures £4,160,000.
