Vol. 191 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of E.E.C.

4.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the date upon which the Government informed each of the six Governments of the E.E.C. and the Commission of the Community in Brussels that, in the event of the United Kingdom applying for membership of the E.E.C., the Government would so apply; and if he will declare to the Dáil the terms of such communications to the several Governments and the Commission.

The communication to which the Deputy refers was made to the German Federal Government on 3rd July, to the French and Netherlands Governments on 4th July and to the other three Governments and the Commission on the 5th July.

I informed the Dáil on 5th July of the substance of these communications. It would not be in accordance with established practice to publish the text of such confidential communications.
