Vol. 191 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blood Transfusions.

5.

asked the Minister for Health whether in connection with his understanding in the Dáil of 15th June last he has completed his consideration of the question of the blood supply and plasma necessary for transfusions with a view to securing a reduction in the financial burden which falls on people needing transfusions; and, if so, with what results.

As I indicated in a reply to a similar question by the Deputy on 12th July, this matter is being examined in my Department and I hope to reach an early decision on it. In order to remove any misconception I should like to make it clear that the present arrangements regarding the recoupment by Health Authorities of part of the cost of blood and blood plasma have been in operation since June, 1952.

May I ask when is the Minister likely to be in a position to reach a decision? Within the next week?

I am afraid not. Not within the next few weeks, but certainly in the near future. Not within the next fortnight.

Within the next month?

That would depend. I am not the only person concerned.
