Vol. 191 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits in Common Market Countries.

9.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is now in a position to indicate generally the type of social welfare benefits in payment in each of the Common Market countries, indicating whether benefits are related to wages or to need.

The answer is in the negative.

There is a wide diversity of social security schemes in these countries and, in some of them, separate schemes for different classes and contingencies. It would not be practicable, even with a very detailed and costly examination, to prepare reliable information regarding them which would permit of any useful analysis of their provisions.
