Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Headage Grant for North Kerry Reactors.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a number of farmers in the North Kerry area have sold reactor cows under the bovine tuberculosis eradication scheme within the past ten months, and that they have not yet received the £15 headage grant; and, if so, if he will have this matter investigated with a view to having the payments expedited.

As I indicated in reply to a similar Question by the Deputy on 2nd March, 1961, the necessary documentary evidence to support claims for payment of headage grants was not forthcoming in a number of cases in Co. Kerry and other Southern Counties. As a result of investigations, it has so far been possible to make payments in approximately 75 per cent. of these cases in Co. Kerry. The investigations are expected to conclude at an early date and payment will be then made of all outstanding claims where the investigations show that this is warranted.
